Should you be using Retinol?

As a facialist, I am always asked: “What’s the best anti-ageing skincare product?” I always answer: “Retinol.”

Read my January column in Financial Times HTSI to learn why we should all add Retinol to our skincare routine.

As a practitioner and as a personal fan of retinol, my column highlights my insights and tips on how to choose and use this often under-utilised and misunderstood hero ingredient.

Discover some of my tried and tested over-the-counter Retinol heroes below:

MURAD Retinol Youth Renewal Serum | An easy-does-it formula with a dose of hyaluronic acid is mild enough for nightly use.

SKINCEUTICALS Retinol 0.3 | Beginner-friendly, and delivers a steady, even release of retinol.

MEDIK8 Crystal Retinal 6 | available in a series of strengths. It contains retinaldehyde, a next-gen form of fast-acting vitamin A.

LA PRAIRIE Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil | The Swiss brand has championed the use of retinol-rich caviar since the late ’80s, making a massage feel even more special.

KIEHL'S Retinol Skin-Renewing Daily Micro-Dose Serum | For a measured dose of peptide and ceramides to strengthen the skin-barrier function, opt for this patent-pending serum.

DR. DENNIS GROSS Advanced Retinol + Ferulic Overnight Wrinkle Treatment | This is a one-two punch of a serum, with powerhouse ferulic acid improving skin elasticity while evening out pigmentation.

Each month in my ASK ADEELA column in Financial Times How to Spend It - I cover a skincare topic I am usually asked about the most. Drawing from my experience as a practicing Facialist I share my insights and tips to help de-mystify and simplify skincare issues.
